Jubilee's Home Page!

Welcome to Jubilee's Home Page!

Hello and welcome to Jubilee's page!

Jubilee is a 3 year old PMU Paint filly.  She was rescued by Spring Hill Horse rescue in Brandon, VT in the fall of 2003. She was only 4 months old at the time! When we got her, she knew nothing about people or fences. It only took us about 3 hours to gain her trust. She is a sweet heart and calls to us whenever we exit our house! At 3 years old, she is a big sweetheart that has a tiny bit of attitude to boot! She's an amazing horse to ride and work with. Although she throws an attitude once in a while, she has been quite easy to work with!

Here's a link to a slide show of all the photos I have of her from the day she arrived at the rescue until now! Enjoy!

May, 2003

Sometime in May, Jubilee was born. From May until September she stayed with her mother in the fields. She was a byproduct of the PMU industry. Over 60,000 foals are born this way. About 20,000 get rescued. The rest are shipped out to feed lots, where they will be fattened up and slaughtered in the spring.

September, 2003

In the beginning of September Jubilee, along with many other foals, was weaned onto grain, hay, and grass. They had their Coggins test taken as well as a rabies shot given to them. This was only the beginning of the rescue process for over 90 foals. In a few days, these foals were loaded onto a large trailer to begin their long ride home. Every few hours the drivers stopped and gave the foals feed and water and made sure they were ok. After more than 2500 miles these precious babies arrived at their temporary destination, Spring Hill Horse Rescue. Within two days, they were inspected by three different vets, and taken to their new homes!

Finally, the day arrived! After waiting two months, we were able to pick up our baby at the rescue! My mom had visited the day before, but I wasn't with her, so I didn't know what Jubilee looked like! Boy was I surprised! Mom told me she was blue roan and white with some brown, but I couldn't imagine it for the life of me! The rescue was about an hours drive from home. The day was cold, windy, and very rainy. That didn't bother us! We started off about 2 pm with a truck and trailer.Once we got to the rescue, there was another horse person picking up her foal, so we had to wait a while. I must say that watching that foal get into the trailer was very entertaining! He was a black and white paint, very cute, but stubborn! They did everything they could to get him in there, but all to no avail! Finally, they put a halter on him and pulled with that and pushed from behind and he went up in! Then it was our turn. As we walked into the barn, I smelled fresh shavings and hay and saw about 20 foals munching or lying down and napping. It wasn't hard to find Jubilee. Papers signed and trailer ready, we prepared to struggle with her. The lady at the rescue herded Jubilee out from the other foals and drove her to the round pen where the trailer was waiting. Lo and behold, she calmly walked out of the barn, into the pen, and right into the trailer leaving us standing there, our jaws hanging wide! After we got home, we unloaded her easily and started to show her that we were her friends! After two attempts to get out of the fence, she calmed right down and ever since then has been easy to work with!

Jubilee is now 3 years old! WOW has she ever grown! She is now about 15.3 hands and is still growing! She should top out right around 16.1 hands tall when she's all done! She's a wonderful riding horse and even though she's big, she's just a lovable baby! That's all for tonight! I hope to update again soon!
